Workplace Persona #3 - Side Hustlin’ Sebastian

You may know a Sebastian.

Sebastian moves with purpose.

Sebastian blindly follows influencers.

One job is not enough for Sebastian.

Sebastian needs a side hustle.

One week Sebastian is going to own a rental property.

One week Sebastian is into drop-shipping.

You know Side-Hustlin’ Sebastian.

Meet SHS.

Observations on SHS:

Observation 1: SHS gets too excited about the professed success of minor social media influencers. “This guy makes 6 figures just by owning AirBNB’S!”

He said if I look at National Park Gateway cities by paying for his simple, exclusive, easy to follow formula, I too can quit my job in no time!

Observation 2: SHS fully believes if they follow the steps of others, they will be rich. They are willing to put in vast amounts of time and energy to the whom of an influencer in Dubai. But won’t move an inch for their manager.

Make it stand out

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Observation 3: SHS have a certain arrogance to them. As it they are the only ones heading down the journey of life to pursue joy and fulfillment. Fuck you SHS. I too want to be happy, but I am on an even more harrowing journey. To get you to deliver your part of our project on the deliver date.

Observation 4: SHS are always about to do something….but some intangible resistance prevents them from action.

Observation 5: Successful SHS’s exist. More power to you and your wax candle carving business on ETSY. More power to your Rice Krispy Treat subscription business. But with power comes responsibility. Realize that you, the success ones, just re-ignited the flame of hope that was about to be snuffed out for some other unlucky soul. Their failure is because of you.

Observation 6: SHS don’t really care if you’re interested in what they have to say. Like most self-obsessed souls who read self-help books, they are a little unaware of social cues. Physically removing y9urself from a conversation is your only hope. Pro-tip, commit to buying whatever they are selling and move on. Chance are you’ll never have to pay up, they’ll be out hustling on a new venture tomorrow.
